Abstract:The prediction of landslide characteristics is very important for the mitigation of landslides. A discussion is presented on the practicability of the numerical analysis for quasi-coupled flow-deformation which is used to predict rainfall-induced landslide. This method, combining the finite element method for seepage and the finite element method with consideration of shear strength reduction (SSRFEM), is used to analyze two series of landslide model tests. It is shown that this method can predict the type of landslide and potential slip surface. It can also give the qualitative analysis and description of the run-out distance of landslide. Hence, the combination of the seepage finite element method and the SSRFEM is expected to be a practical method for the mitigation of landslide.
