Abstract：In this paper applying the elastic deformation theory and theoretical gas law, and assuming the conservation of mass , a general pore pressure formula has been derived,which is consistent with the Skempton formula in form, and can be used to derive the pore pressure of soil specimen under isotropic compression and confine compression.The experimental results have been presented to validate the academic theories. It shows that the capillary action has a little influence to pore pressure.
